Why I watermark images...

Once upon a time I used to naively post pictures of my work online with no watermark...no logo...nothing. Then I was informed that there are photographers who steal other photographers work and claim them as their own – GASP! Who would do that!? But it’s true…(http://stopstealingphotos.tumblr.com/). Since that day unless it is a mobile phone picture I will pretty much watermark it – even of my own kids/family. Sadly, I have seen where people will still steal watermarked photos also, but if they do, hopefully it will raise a red flag that it is not their photography name.  Thus by using watermarked images, you are less likely to have your family's photos being used by someone you do not know.

It has also been brought to my attention that there are other photographers who will give clients unwatermarked photos to post online, however to protect my work I watermark all of my web sized images that clients receive for their protection and mine. If you receive a CD I will have two folders on the disc - One will be labeled “High Resolution-PRINTING ONLY” and one will be “Web Sized-INTERNET SHARING ONLY”. Please use the watermarked images in the folder labeled “Web Sized-INTERNET SHARING ONLY” for posting to Facebook, Twitter, blogs, or any other networking site.

If I see that the High Resolution images have been used, I will contact you to remove them, and to please upload the correct ones as agreed upon in the release that was signed.

Thank you for your continued patronage.
